The City Twin & The Country Twin- Why The Pawning Planners Have Compensating Personalities…

My Mini Me, Makenna Mahaney has to have everything perfect at all times- we are both OCD.  My twin sister and Makenna’s twin, Maryssa prefer a good time, dressing comfortably and mimic each other.  Compensating personality twins look alike but often act differently.  Maryssa and Makenna like different foods as do Cindy and I.  From food to sports to clothing and everything in between, we find humor in our differences.

Cindy and I started working at 6 years old pumping gas for my grandfather (who was an identical twin), collecting change for my uncle from vending machines and washing windows took up most of our “free time.”  Our Mini Me second generation twins, Maryssa & Makenna have
never had to work but
are required to do chores and they love volunteering at our events for “tips & flips.”  They made their own video to promote their skills two years ago- Maryssa & Makenna Mahaney- The Little Pawners!  Maryssa hates homework and Makenna loves it- they are hilarious  twin sisters.

When you are raised working- you often become a workaholic, an overachiever or you become the complete opposite.  We often worked 1-2 or even 2-3 jobs for years in order to support ourselves and our children as single mothers. We were workaholics and knew that we had no one other than ourselves to rely on and the fear of being broke fueled our determination to succeed in whatever job field we happened to be working in- we worked harder because we had to in order to have reliable incomes.

I went into sales and Cindy went into customer service and came up with something sassy to say about her problem customers early on.  Cindy is quick witted and can make me laugh under any circumstances including being prepped for thyroid surgery and taking photos of me at my worst and posting them on FB.  I wasn’t “happy” about the photo but, Cindy takes photos of everything and has spent 12 years posting daily photos of her granddaughters, Maryssa & Makenna Mahaney.  Raising her granddaughters and running her household have kept my sister pretty busy and often pretty funny with her observations of how she can’t find any help around her house hence #Cindyism “just like a blister- showing up when all the work is done.”  I understand a few of her #redneckgranny sayings but a few are more complicated.  Pawning Planners Apparel feature #Cindyisms on the back of our tshirts.

Many of my career choices required being dressed to the nines on a daily basis and so, I adopted to the formal wear “look.”  My twin sister has always hated to wear clothing she deems unconfortable and during the winter months, enjoys her house slippers that double as “shoes.”

I’m certain we would’ve loved working together but up until 7 years ago, we never had the opportunity.  Creating Texas Twins Events, Texas Twins Treasures & The Pawning Planners have my sister and I a window to spend time together while working that had never existed for us.  I finally found a point in my life where the opportunity to choose what I wanted to do presented itself when my husband and I sold out Dream Home.  My share would be used to start three very unique and diverse businesses that work together to give anyone (regardless of their income) the opportunity for a Dream Event.

When I told Cindy about my idea of starting a low cost wedding & event business, she jumped in to volunteer helping with photography and set up but we quickly realized her “specialty” was entertaining the guests!  Because of her new role at events, my son and his wife became our photography team.

Explaining to non twins the differences of twins can be complicated but, when my sister and I (or even our second generation twins, Maryssa and Makenna Mahaney) are around others we are asked if we do everything together or dress alike of have the same likes and dislikes.  Why?  Because twins fascinate non twins and most of them love to ask questions.  Spend a few minutes talking to my sister and I and you will quickly realize that while we look alike- we are completely different.

I’ve spent my life “living in the city.”  Whether it was in California or Texas- I have never desired to be too far from a grocery store or gas station.  Convenience and the “city life” suit me but, I’m a twin and my sister loves her “country life.”

This afternoon while reading one of my sister, Cindy Daniels #Cindyisms, I called to tell her it was missing something.  My sister insisted that there wasn’t anything missing from her self proclaimed #redneckgranny sayings and that I must be the only person who doesn’t understand them-she’s right, I don’t.

Since marrying her husband Steve, some twenty plus years ago, my sister has become “country” and, a hillbilly.  While it’s true that my brother in law, Steve Daniel is a country boy and can fix dang near anything- Steve and his one liners must have “rubbed off”
on Cindy because 50% of the time, I have no idea what she’s talking about!

Twinning is winning and even though my country twin hates the city life, she “comes to town” twice a week to see me and I “drive to the country” twice a week to see her.  Sleepovers at my home are a weekly occurence because we love siending time together.  Do we agree on everything?  No but, being a twin doesn’t mean you have identical personalities-we don’t and neither do our younger twins.
Being a twin is a blessing because you always have a best friend whether they agree with you or not…
