Unity Candle, Sand, Rose Giving, Rope Tying Wedding Ceremonies to Create Unity

The Unity Candle is a traditional wedding event, outdoor weddings can create an issue of the candles staying lit if there are strong winds.

During a Unity Candle Ceremony, either the mothers of the Bride and Groom, fathers, or Bride and Groom themselves can light the smaller candles on either side of the Unity Candle which symbolizes uniting the family.

As a wedding officiant and minister, I recite:
“Groom and Bride, the brightness of the candles that your families have lit will shine throughout your lives, giving you courage and reassurance in the darkness. Lighting the center candle represents that your two lives are now one light.”

Or,

“Groom and Bride, have chosen to affirm their love by lighting this Unity Candle. From every human being rises a light. When two souls that are destined for each other find one another, their streams of light flow together and a single brighter light goes forth from their united being.”

Alternatives to a Unity a Candle Ceremony:

Rope pulling- the joining of separate lives and families into one. The Groom will hold a metal loop with three pieces if different colored rope already knotted into the loop. The Bride will braid together three pieces of rope- one symbolizes the Groom, one symbolizing the Bride, and the center symbolizing their love and unity.

My role, ” Each of these ropes represents your past, your separate lives prior to this moment. As you entertainer your ropes, you will be joining two lives into one representing the present. The finished knot symbolizes your future, how your love and marriage will continue to be strong. Bride and Groom, please tie the knot. This knot, when the ends are pulled, becomes so strong that the rope will break before it becomes undone. Please pull the rope.” This is also the cue for my twin sister, Cindy Daniel, to zoom in for a photo. After the knot is tightened, I say, “may the love knot be a reminder of the strength of your love, binding together your hearts.”

Rose ceremony- There are many ways to go about this ceremony, my favorite begins with the Bride and mother of the Groom each bringing down the aisle a vase of roses (each mother has a different color of rose) the arrangements are placed next to the Bride and Groom during the ceremony. After I recite the ceremony, the Bride and Groom take the flowers and arrange them into a larger container which symbolizes the joining of both families.

The Sand Ceremony- a unity sand ceremony is one if the most popular ceremonies requested at Texas Twins Events. Like unity candles, the sand is used to symbolize the uniting of the Bride and Groom. Their separate lives are symbolized by the sand, preferably in different colors. The Bride and Groom each take turns pouring the sand into a larger vessel. Their newly formed union is symbolized by the intertwined pattern of the sand.

There are many more options for unity, family inclusion and the uniting of families.
