Wonderful Wedgewood Wedding of Lydia Valdez and Roy Morgan III Military Hero

Lydia called me last week after finding me on the Internet to use as a wedding Officiant, I went ahead and made note of the date and time while clearing my calendar to make myself available as I had been leaving a week open to care for my husband who was having surgery October 11.

Normally I meet with couples to go over details and cater the ceremony to their wishes, so when I didn’t hear back from Lydia all week, I assumed she had booked another Officiant.

The Bride called Saturday around noon the day of the wedding to confirm I would be Officiating. Believe it or not, bridal parties often call me when their elected Officiant fails to show up! Rest assured this will never happen when working with Texas Twins Events- reliability, punctuality and professionalism are important to my staff and I.

Arriving early, as I always do, we walked into a beautiful backyard venue by a pool with guests already seated under a canopy tent at 4:30, although the wedding was scheduled for 5:00. Since the weather was somewhat muggy and hot, the guests had fans to cool themselves which proved to be a very nice touch.

I quickly located Lydia to discuss the ceremony and go over positioning of the Bride and Groom and whether or not anyone would be presenting or “giving away” the Bride to the Groom.

Ann Alexander and Cindy Daniel had accompanied me to take photographs of this beautifully articulated wedding with our twins Maryssa and Makenna Mahaney who had planned to carry the brides train.

For some reason, my expensive Kodak camera decided to “act up” on me. This had never happened before and surprised me.

Roy danced to the altar with his escort to ZZ Top delighting myself and the wedding guests.

Roy and Lydia graciously requested my email address to forward photos while Cindy and Ann used iPhones to get video and a few photos.

I met with Roy to discuss the ceremony and realized he had no pin for his boutonnière- no problem, we always bring an emergency event kit and I attached the lovely floral boutonnière with a safety pin quickly fetched from the car by Cindy. This gentle giant told me he had quickly prepared written vows for his bride, as I love to add a personal element to weddings, I was thrilled he had done so.

Coming from a military family myself- Texas Twins Events has a special kinship with Air Force, Navy, Army and the Marines.

A decorated veteran, Roy Clay Morgan III was truly a hero who had served this country for many years. Somewhat nervous, Roy showed me the stunning custom made bridal ring set he had commissioned for Lydia. Simply put, this Texas Twin was honored to conduct this event for such a kind and compassionate young man who told me in confidence that he had lobbied for me to Officiate their wedding. It is not often you meet such an eloquent, soft spoken and decorated hero of our military force.

We do offer Spanish and Hearing Impaired translation but, need to be notified prior to the event to schedule Stephaney Mahaney’s attendance. Roy and I attempted to assist Lydia’s grandfather with a tie and were rescued by a wedding guest quickly stepping in and expertly fashioning the tie.

After speaking with Roy, I advised Lydia that he had written vows for her to prepare her for the break that would occur during the ceremony.

During the ceremony Lydia advised me that she also had written something to read to Roy. These written vows were so beautiful and moving that I had to wipe my own eyes along with the other guests.

Truly a remarkable couple, I will go to the courthouse to file the license in person as I always to ensure a document as important as theirs is not lost by the post office.

I’m so grateful to have had the opportunity to meet this couple and visit with them. Roy and Lydia are a match made in Heaven, and with a few raindrops not impeding the procession, I’ve been told that a little rain is good luck 🙂20131013-102638.jpg
