Wendy Wortham on Wedding Toasts for the Tongue Tied

I’m accustomed to public speaking and quite comfortable in front of a group, but I’m also usually prepared too.

At a wonderful San Antonio wedding, I was called up to speak and, unsure of exactly what I was going to say to these two friends I love like family.

Today we are going to visit about a variety of wedding toasts- preparation is always fundamental in saying the “right” thing at the right time.

1. Best man wedding toast, “I rise to offer a toast to the bride. May this day be the beginning of a new chapter in a love story that will endure forever, and bring joy and happiness to her and her new husband.”

2. Maid of honor toast to the couple, “to the bride and groom, may the love you share today be one day seen as small, compared to the love you feel ten years from now, fifty years from now. May you continue to grow in love as individuals and may this day be just the start of how big your union can be.”

3. Rehearsal toast of bride to parents, “a toast to my parents, who tirelessly helped plan this wedding so that it would be the day of my dreams. My parents are the shore onto which my ship has always been able to find a safe harbor. They are the lighthouse, visible through dark storms. I love you mom and dad.”

Keeping positive with your direction, rather than trying to be a stand up comedian is a good idea.

To the happy couple…

“May these blessings be due, a wealth of friendships, old and new, quiet nights and busy days, time for prayer and time for praise, some service rendered, some solace given, and gentle peace with God and Heaven.”

“The man or woman you really love will grow old with you, when your hands grow wrinkled with time, may they still be reaching for yours for comfort and strength.”

“To the lamp of love- may it burn brightest in the darkest hours and never flicker in the winds of trial.”

“Live life to the fullest, remembering that this is the first day of the rest of your life.”

“May your joys be as light as the ocean, your troubles as light as the foam.”

“May you never forget what is worth remembering or remember what is best forgotten.”

“Drink to me only with thine eyes, and I will pledge with mine; or leave a kiss within a cup, and I’ll not look for wine.” Ben Johnson

“A thing of beauty is a joy forever, here’s to the you, my beautiful bride.” John Keats

“Never above you, never below you, always beside you.”

“Love is composed of a single soul inhabiting two bodies.” Aristotle

“A successful marriage requires falling in love many times, always with the same person.” Germaine Greer

“To love someone deeply gives you strength. Being loved by someone deeply gives you courage.” Lao Tzu

“There is no more lovely, friendly and charming relationship, than a good marriage.” Martin Luther King

Find a favorite poem, Scripture, or quote that you relate to and remember that you can write this down if you’re more comfortable.

I do hope this blog helps, and as always love to hear from you, dear readers with opinions, tips and stories.
