Unexpected Events Sometimes Have Me Looking Around For A Hidden Camera

Life is often handing out an unexpected circumstance that may seem disastrous at the time but, with patience and a professional attitude, I’ve learned to overcome the unforeseen and make lemonade out of lemons my friend!

My twin sister Cindy Daniel, is always laughing, I am more of a perfectionist and sometimes high strung about going over each detail in depth for the perfect bouquet, the perfect photo, the perfect event. Whether it’s a wedding, Christening, House Blessing or Celebration of Life/Funeral, I want your event to exceed your expectations! My team is a unique blend of talent that I’ve put together to compliment each other and the strengths and skills of this group is the reason for our many success stories in the DFW area.

Ironically, this company was started when my son announced his plans to marry in the Fort Worth Botanic Gardens. Of course, it was very important to me that every part of this wedding would be not only beautiful, but a memorable production for the blended families in attendance. I had no idea at the time that I was struggling with thyroid cancer and would require emergency surgery immediately following this wedding.

Knowing I wasn’t feeling well for the four months it would take me to complete a the Centerpieces, Corsages, Bouquets and more while struggling to swallow or breathe well, Cindy insisted on a visit to my family doctor who would refer me to a local Endocrinologist. I was nervous about the need for a specialist.

Cindy, Maryssa and Makenna Mahaney and myself went to this appointment together as I was now somewhat scared about my future. After being told that I would require a full thyroidectomy, I patiently explained that my son was getting married and anything else would be out on hold until this event. I didn’t believe that I could take the time for surgery- I was far too busy.

After realizing that I was capable of pulling off such a large event for my sons wedding, I told my sister over lunch, before my MRI that I’d like to go into the event services industry. Of course, she was a little wary about my health- but, knowing my strong work ethics, Cindy Daniel came on board to my dreams and plans for Texas Twins Events. Bringing along with her, our precious twins Maryssa and Makenna Mahaney who’ve grown quite comfortable as either flower girls, ring bearers or simply helping the younger children at our events with the procession or other needs.

When my niece Leigh Andrea announced her plans to marry, I was still in a recovery period that would take most of my energy while working a full time job and devoting all my available time to events, I decided to officiate the Blais wedding myself, as well as handling the floral designs. Cindy Daniel would handle the photography, Ann Alexander the wedding dresses, Virginia Malone the venue, Karolyn Nein the cupcake tower and the cakes.

These events would be how Texas Twins Events would come full circle with a great group of friends who bring talent, humor, and the ability to overcome the uninvited wedding guest who showed up unexpectedly, the bridal bouquet that fell from a balcony and was run over by a car, the ring bearer who ran off chasing butterflies, the cake that was knocked off the table, the large wedding guest who knocked over the twin ring bearers and twin flower girls to get the toss bouquet, the bride who was stung by a bee and required an ephedrine injection we happened to have in our ever present emergency kit brought to all events.

Yes, there have been windows of craziness that I’ve turned around half expecting a reality television camera to be documenting- who could have planned for some of the things we’ve experienced? And, we’ve turned the traumas into triumphs! Something I wish we had been filming.

When my dear friend Virginia Malone volunteered to keep up with scheduling, billing and organizing- I was thrilled! Her neighbor Karolyn Nein was quite a baker and artist with cupcakes among other delights. Cindy was an experienced photographer, Ann Alexander a wedding dress specialist employed by David’s Bridal, Cory Oropenza and Tucker Taylor aka Siren and Rochelle Roullette, the award winning make up artists and drag divas, who brought a new and exciting element to the team. Together, we are committed to bring the best out of any possible or unexpected scenario that could never have been expected.

Cindy often finds a camera angle that catches me at less than my best- our family calls these photos “blackmail pics.” Whether it’s me frowning or strategy planning, or ironically, under sedation for my surgery- Cindy has a camera ready to document the event.

Today, as I face the New Year typing this blog and listening to the parade- I’m very thankful for the accomplishments the Texas Twin Team has made, the friends we’ve found along the way, and the opportunities we will find in 2014. I’m thankful for the referrals from our previous clients, my wonderful husband and family, and my survival of unexpected health crisis and finally, the wonderful team we have that has stood behind me through the trials and tribulations of our travels to weddings and funerals, road trips and pit stops at gas stations, rest areas and fast food joints across Texas-
