“The Texas Twins are a Tornado of Talent?” I Laughed, and Why…

I’ve never truly viewed myself as incredibly talented or even creative, I view myself as a survivor as does my sister.

Although we both posses many skills and talents, I’m not certain “a tornado of talent” would describe either of us in terms we would feel comfortable with.

Our unique insights and self taught skills were often learned not by books but rather, by real life. I believe in a hands on approach to learning and, for years, it has been the easiest way for me to learn a skill or trade.

When I began selling upscale patio furniture and accessories in the nineties, I knew nothing about hotel pool furniture. You see, I had to quickly learn about special orders, warranty issues, salt water pools and why and how one brand supersedes another. The trick for me was to find one brand and sell only that brand until I knew everything there was to know about it and then, move on to another brand our store sold. I was top salesperson for nearly 10 years (until I left to seek other opportunities) for good reason, I took the time to learn the product and understand what I liked or even disliked in order to be honest with a customer. I’ve never compromised my own integrity by pitching or selling something that I wouldn’t own myself! My integrity earned me my top 1% in every industry I chose to dip my feet into because passion and fear of failure propelled me to push harder than others. Drive and ambition are often overlooked in today’s sales force, sadly these very same motivating factors are what sets apart the stars from the superstars!

I once had an argument (good naturedly, of course) with my dear beloved friend and co worker, Charles Thomason regarding training an exceptional salesperson you see he believed a great salesperson could be taught through study rather than by action, I disagreed. Teaching someone to sell by reading a manual lacks the definition of a true “born to sell” personality. Doers and thinkers are different breed and, remarkably I had the gift of both.

Cindy mirrors many of my thoughts in regards to being “the best you can be” in everything she designs and most importantly, her twin grand daughters, Maryssa and Makenna Mahaney.

Neither of us believe in sloppily performing a task that we may not have a chance to do over again.

By being the best wife, wedding officiant, sister , mother, volunteer, and business owner- my reputation is of the upt most importance to me as is any promise or commitment that I make.

Cindy has numerous shortcuts on life’s pesky tasks of holiday decor or, “burning up a meal” but, she has a flair for conducting these tasks with do much humor that I’m often disappointed that no one caught it on film!

Together, maybe we do create a tornado? One will never be bored in our presence and, that my friend is a promise! Laughter and humor have carried us through many tragedies and, thrifty unique ideas have given me the ability to spend more time with my sister by involving her in my many business endeavors. My next vision is to have a storefront for a retail establishment that would showcase my sisters exotic jewelry and clothing creations with my refurbished furniture collection and I would call this fun, friendly and eclectic shop (what else) Texas Twins Treasures!

Happy New Year and wishing all of our Twins, Friends and Followers a wonderful holiday season and success in the coming year.
