Historic Fort Worth Stockyards Wedding of Mr & Mrs Harvey Nez Who Travelled From Arizona to Marry in Texas

Several days ago, I received an email from Lynnette Gray regarding a wedding on July 5 in the Stockyards area mid afternoon.

Quickly reviewing my schedule, I would need to make a few changes to a public revocation and visit to an ailing man at Baylor Medical Center, but I could certainly make time for a family traveling all the way from Arizona to marry in Fort Worth, Texas.

The reception was originally planned for three o’clock so, Ann and I arrived and parked at 2:00 in the public parking lot.

Walking to the Cattleman’s Steakhouse where the reception room downstairs was empty although the tables had been set up and decorated for the reception.

I had received an email while parking several minutes earlier from Lynette that they were at the restaurant with the cake so, not locating the party, I decided to call and be certain that there had not been an unexpected issue I might be able to assist this lovely family with since they were unfamiliar with Fort Worth.

Lynnette advised me that the family had left the restaurant to return to the bakery upon discovering the wedding cake had mistakenly been replaced with a birthday cake. As my readers know, I set aside enough time between scheduled appearances to ensure that should an issue arise, it would not be a problem.

I quickly let this stunning Bride know that Ann and I would relax at the restaurant bar and order a shrimp cocktail and to take her time as there was nothing pressing that could not wait for the appropriate cake to be picked up.

As we sat at the bar, I told Ann it’s been too long since we’ve visited the unique cowtown area. Fort Worth is rich is culture and arts, we live in an amazing city!

Upon finishing a quick snack, we decided to go visit shops and watch tourists until the family returned with the cake and had a bit of fun at the Maverick and tried on a few cowboy hats. The tourists crowded the streets and as I always have enjoyed watching folks at airports, parks and malls had a pleasant unexpected interlude to an otherwise busy afternoon.

We received a call to return to the parking lot as the family had arrived and greeted this beautiful Bride in an intricate lace dress and ornate cowboy boots. The entire family had some of the most beautiful pieces of coral and turquoise jewelry I had ever seen.

Our group walked across the street to a location that the Bride and Groom had previously picked and, that was currently occupied by another family.

After advising them that we were having a ceremony and they were most certainly welcome as our guests, we began the wedding ceremony.

This family was so patient during the photography portion of the after ceremony- it was amazing as there was virtually no wind and, the humidity quickly took my hair from full and fluffy to drenched and drab dull and despairing to perspiration. I was wringing wet as were the wedding guests who were looking forward to a cold longneck at the reception. We were melting ya all !

Kids it is difficult to stay fresh pressed in Texas heat. Lol, but our group finished up with a ceremony and photos that showed the love and respect I’ve come to find so important in unions I officiate. Kindness, respect and honor are only a portion of hurdles often faced in today’s marriages.

I advised them that they may face challenges together, tragedies and triumphs that I pray will make them stronger and grant the strength to endure these obstacles.

After an exchange of rings, and a kiss to seal this union, I advised them that with time, their hands although aged and weathered would still be reaching for each other just as they had to exchange rings and make their commitment to each other in the presence of family and honored friends.

Although I am licensed in many states to perform marriages and funerals, as I stood looking at the backside of Risckys listening to old time country music that I had grown up hearing, I was deeply honored that this couple had sought me out and travelled a great distance with their families to join hands in marriage right here in Fort Worth, TX.

It was quite touching that the parents and, the Brides brother and sister presented this couple. Traditions have always been important to me and I hope the Nez family makes a tradition of visiting Fort Worth, TX again soon.
